SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) -- Southport Police and the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office are searching for a man who robbed the First Federal Bank in Southport Saturday just after noon.

According to Southport Police, no one is in custody at this time. They are offering a $1,000 reward for the conviction of the suspect.

Police say a slender white man between 5' 10'' and 5' 11" tall, around 155 pounds with a heavy Southern accent and wearing jeans, a black hoodie, black jacket and black ski mask entered the bank and demanded money. It is uncertain whether the man was armed, but witnesses say he had his hand in his pocket as if to signal he had a gun.

The robber escaped on foot into the woods behind First Federal Bank. Brunswick County canines and helicopter are assisting in the search.

We are told the robber did not hold anyone hostage, and law enforcement is not sure at this time how much money the robber got away with.

If you have any information, contact the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office at 910-263-2777 or Southport Police at 910-457-7917.
