WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Some Halloween partiers got a spook when they got caught in a DWI checkpoint last night at 15th and Market Streets in Wilmington. The sting resulted in more than 60 charges, according to Barb Lynch with the group Justice in Motion.
Lynch says officers arrested 13 people for driving while impaired and one more for driving after consuming alcohol under the age of 21. Three people were charged with driving while license revoked. Officers found 46 other charges, including underage alcohol consumption, no operators license and drug possession, at the checkpoint as well.
Lynch says Wilmington Police hosted the "Booze It & Lose It" checkpoint, which was part of a statewide effort to crack down on drunk driving during Halloween. Wrightsville Beach PD, Carolina Beach PD, Oak Island PD, Highway Patrol and the New Hanover and Brunswick County Sheriff's Offices also participated.
