Man struck, killed by train in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) -- A man has been killed after he was struck by an Amtrak train in Fayetteville.

The Fayetteville Observer reported the man was lying on the tracks when he was hit about 1:20 p.m. Thursday.

The man's name has not been released until relatives can be notified.

Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham says the train was heading from Savannah, Ga., to New York when it struck the man.

Graham says none of the passengers or crew was hurt.

She says the train was stopped nearly two hours while an investigation was conducted.
