HAMPSTEAD,NC (WWAY) -- This is the third year for topsail as a 2-A high school. There were lots of growing pains the first two seasons, but 2011 has turned out to be a banner year for the Black Hats.

The team is currently 8-3 with a six game winning streak.

By far, Friday's second round playoff game against Kinston will the biggest challenge for Topsail on the football field all year. The Kinston Vikings are 10-1. Topsail head coach Bryan Davis knows his team has their hands full. "What we have before this week in Kinston is a different monster.” Davis said. “We're going to have play one of our most perfect games. We're excited we got to this point. I believe in our kids. They understand what they have to do and they believe in each other and we'll give ourselves a shot."

Topsail's boys soccer team is also alive in the playoffs. In fact Topsail has two shutouts so far. They’ve outscored their opposition by 11 in post-season play, but Topsail for the third time this season has to face 22-1 East Duplin. The third.round state playoff game will be played at East Duplin on Wednesday night. Ian McMichael is the Topsail soccer coach. " The boys are excited. We believe we can get a result Wednesday night, but it'll be a heckuva battle."
