WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) - Historically some of the best soccer teams in the state come out of Wake County. Wilmington soccer squads typically struggle against Raleigh schools, but Laney High School bucked the trend on Wednesday night in the third round of the 4-A state playoffs. Laney knocked off East Wake 2-1 to advance to the fourth round. Laney will host Pinecrest at 7pm on Saturday in round four.
In the 2-A state playoffs East Duplin shutout Topsail 1-0 in overtime. Edson Garcia scored the game winner for the Panthers. They’ll host Clinton in round four later this week.
