Last year, renowned local artist, Ivey Hayes, suffered a blood cloth resulting in lengthy hospitalizations and difficult therapy to regain the use of paralyzed portions of his body. Although he has enjoyed a remarkable overall recovery, the use of his right had has eluded his brave struggle to again return to his first love of painting. Not to be dissuaded, Ivey set out to learn to paint with his left hand and now feels he has overcome yet another obstacle in his blessed life.
The 4'x 4' completed work will be auctioned off at a fundraising gala to benefit Alzheimers North Carolina, Inc. a non-profit 501c3 charitable organization serving people with Alzheimer's and their family members in southeastern North Carolina.
The Alzheimers Legacies Gala will take place on Saturday, November 19th, 2011 at the Wilmington Hilton Riverside. A night of Dinner and Dancing to the music of Duke Ladd Band. Roberto Chiesa will also share his film titled "Inside my Being", a powerfully emotional short film about the relationship between a mother and daughter as they deal with Alzheimer's disease. The film shows the inside point-of-view of the Alzheimer's patient
