CLARKTON, NC (WWAY) -- We often hear from viewers who want to see more coverage of the positive things happening in our community, especially during the holiday season when there is so much good going on. In an effort to do that, we are showcasing True Worship Christian Center, a small church with a big heart for helping needy people with something as simple as a trip to the grocery store. The world can be changed if you “just add hope.”
"I have no feelings,” said stunned shopper Creddie Jacobs. “I feel thankful."
Jacobs was brought to tears when Pastor Greg Norwood of True Worship Christian Center told her he wanted to pay for everything in her buggy at Bo's Food Store.
Norwood and members of his small congregation came up with the idea for Thanks and Giving, a program designed to surprise Thanksgiving shoppers with spontaneous love and generosity.
"People are not feeling loved, so they are going out and doing things that they probably shouldn't be doing,” church member Lowanda Davis said. “It's just a way of letting people know that we love you and that the church is willing to come in and help."
Davis said Norwood is bringing new and exciting ideas, like Thanks and Giving, to the area. It’s a "no strings attached" way to reach out and put the unity back into the community.
"Sometimes when you don't have enough, it's difficult for a family to want to come together,” Pastor Norwood said. “We felt like if we would create an atmosphere that would bring the family together, and obviously food does that every single time. So we thought, why not do something like this?"
Thanks and Giving did just that for three shoppers like Jacobs.
"Oh, God. I am so thankful,” cried Jacobs. “I will tell everybody about it."
"Even if the people never come to our church, they will always remember our church helped and lended a hand,” Norwood said.
True Worship Christian Center adds hope by surprising Thanksgiving shoppers with a holiday treat and footing the bill for their turkey and all the fixin's.
Norwood plans to continue Thanks and Giving next year and hopes he and his church will be able to bless even more families.
