Again, we agree 2012. (Wow, this is getting kinda scary!)
There was a time, about 20 years ago, when I was laid off from my job and had to draw food stamps (and unemployment) until I could find another one. It took about 4 months, but I was able to find a really good job and have been employed there ever since. I'll never forget how those food stamps kept me and my son from going hungry. I was so grateful for them.
Food stamps are meant to be a hand up, not a hand out. They're meant to be a temporary, not a permanent, fix. If they're used for the purpose for which they were intended, they're a very good thing. But far too many abuse the system and continue relying on taxpayers to support them their whole lives. There's GOT to be a better way.
