RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- North Carolina students now have a way to link their classroom lessons about the Civil War with the actual sites where historic events took place.
The Division of State Historic Sites has launched a new teaching tool called The North Carolina Civil War Experience, which aims to integrate what students learn in class with what they can experience outside school.
A website for teachers offers activities and lesson plans based around 12 state historic sites like Bentonville Battlefield and Fort Fisher. The materials can be used along if classes can't visit the sites.
Although designed for 8th graders, the state agency says the materials can be adapted for use by high school students.
