Maybe it's just me, but I really think if a 10 year old is coming home from school, an adult should be waiting for them at home. The article leads me to think no one was there except the 10 year old who walked in on the burglars. Let's face it, an adult is better able to handle an emergency situation than a 10 year old child.

Legally, no child should be left alone under the age of 11. Personally, I waited until my child was 13 before I felt comfortable enough to leave him alone at the house all by himself.
