UPDATE: Leak has been stopped and traffic is no longer blocked. Construction crews scrapped the gas line and caused the leak while moving a trench box. No citation was issued. No injuries were reported.

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -- WFD crews are on the scene of a natural gas line rupture at this time.

The line is a 6" line and the leak is significant. Fire crews have secured the area which required the closing of Eastwood Road from Military Cutoff to Rogersville Road. Rogersville Road remains open at this time. The Eastwood entrance into Mayfair is not accessible at this time.

The Gas Company has just arrived and is evaluating the situation. It appears this may go on for a while longer. No injuries reported at this time. Road closures could change as conditions change.
