With school back in session we need to remember to be extra careful driving through those school zones. Carolina Beach Elementary School is reopening after shutting its doors to remodel last year. The school had an officer at each of the school's crosswalks today. There are signs, but no flashing lights warning drivers that they're in a school zone so police are urging drivers to be extra cautious. Cpl. Larry Ward with the Carolina Beach Police Department said, "I wouldn't exceed more than 10 to 15 mph because the fact that it give you a little bit better reaction time if a child darts out or loses control of their bike." If you are caught speeding in a school zone it will cost you big money. Violators could also be charged with reckless driving.
