Wreaths Across America to honor fallen heroes Saturday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- More than 340,000 wreaths are on the move right now, all part of Wreaths Across America. Each year the organization coordinates hundreds of wreath-laying ceremonies on the second Saturday of December to honor and remember those who have served our country.

More than 300 of the wreaths arrived in Wilmington today. Volunteers will place them on grave sites Saturday at Wilmington National Cemetary.

"All the wreaths we have here have been sponsored by people from our community," Cape Fear Composite Squadron Commander Jerry West said. "From all the veterans organizations, individuals. They went online and sponsored a wreath and paid for it."

The Wreaths Across America ceremony starts Saturday at noon followed by the laying of wreaths on the grave sites.
