DURHAM, NC (AP) -- A judge has ruled that the woman at the center of the Duke University lacrosse scandal is competent to be tried for murder.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that Superior Court Judge Jim Hardin ruled Wednesday that 33-year-old Crystal Mangum can stand trial for murder in the death of her 46-year-old boyfriend. Reginald Daye was stabbed to death during a domestic dispute April 3 at his apartment in Durham. He died 10 days later.
A doctor who evaluated Mangum said she was alert, oriented and could describe the charges against her and the events leading up to her arrest.
Mangum's attorney didn't offer any other arguments.
Mangum falsely accused Duke University lacrosse players of rape in 2006. She's being held in jail on $200,000 bond.
