What you have said is so true. You can do everything in your power to set your child on the right path, but as they get older, influences from many different areas of a child's life creep in and some children do not make the decisions that their upbringing would have predicted. You obviously raised him to follow a different path but he chose another. I am glad he was not killed so he can turn this around.
So many people are so willing to blame the parents, the teachers, the friends, the economy... The bottom line is this: Each person is responsible for his/her own actions, no matter how they were raised.
