5 minute lock down when an unknown shooter is on the loose after shooting a student NOT on campus. it was close enough to campus that all area schools should have been on lock down.
Let's be real, had this happened at any other high school the lock down would have been for longer.
This is a school decision and it was irresponsible. Regardless of what NHC schools or the administration learned from the officers they should have waited to learn more. They should ask--How do the police ascertain in 5 minutes whether or not the shooter is anywhere near? Even if the victim said I shot myself, can an officer really investigate to confirm? If it was self-inflicted (this is very hypothetical) than would it not serve our students well if there was a determination as to why a student had a gun in the first place?
What I am saying is regardless of what may have been learned in 5 minutes, is in no way enough time to determine if students should be outside the school during class changes, lunch, etc... I am tired of the students at the schools who's populations are of predominantly lower socio-economic status being short changed and treated as second class citizens.
