WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)-- New Hanover County Community Action is in the spotlight again this evening. It's under investigation for allegedly misspending funds. Now, a Wilmington City Councilman's wife says she was listed as being on the board of the organization, but never served a day.

Sandra Sheridan says she has never stepped foot in the organization's building much less done anything as a board member for Community Action. She says she wants her name cleared.

Community Action operates Head Start, an early education, anti-poverty program. It has a board of directors, and Sandra Sheridan says she was asked once to join, but she politely declined.

She was shocked to find out that Community Action listed her as a board member on an IRS Form 990 the group filled out in 2008 and 2009.

"I have never served on the board. I don't know when they meet. Don't know anything about their organization. All I can say to you is I'm very upset that my name has been put out there," said Sheridan.

Community Action is also under federal investigation for allegedly misspending close to $1,000,000.

We reached out to a number of the group's board members. They told us we could only talk to the chairman, Rev. Charles Davis. Davis called us back late this afternoon and said he couldn't do an interview until next week.

Sheridan adds that another reason she couldn't be on the Community Action board is because she's already on a competing board.

She also added that she is still trying to wrap her brain around how all this happened, and once she does, she'll decide on what to do next.
