Dewey Hill won't seek reelection

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Another longtime member of the General Assembly is getting out of politics.

Rep. Dewey Hill, who represents Brunswick and Columbus Counties, will finish his tenth term next year, but will not run again. After spending 20 years in Raleigh, Hill says it's time for someone else to bring some new ideas to the table.

During his tenure he sponsored or introduced 62 bills. Hill says he's proud of what's he's accomplished while in office.

"I think as chair of the House Agriculture Committee for a number of years and vice chair of the Finance Committee, I think I've been able to accomplish right much for this district and this state," Rep. Hill said. "So I think it's time for dewey hill to move on to another industry right now."

That other industry will be his grocery store chain and developing company, Hillcrest Corporation. Both are expanding, so Hill wants to focus his attention on that.
