CHADBOURN, NC (WWAY) -- One person is dead and two more are injured after a shooting this morning in Chadbourn.

Although investigators are not releasing many details, neighbors say they are shocked by what happened.

"I heard a gunshot go off, and I came out my front door, and I saw the people over there, and I ran over there to see what had happened," neighbor Donald Fred Evans said.

Evans says when he got to his neighbor's yard, he was shocked by what he saw. Three people had been shot and were laying in the yard.

Evans says the scene was devastating and confusing.

"I heard one shot," he said. "I don't know. I don't know if he was cleaning his weapon or what."

Evans says he immediately started performing CPR on one of the victims, who had been shot in the chest.

Chadbourn Police Chief Steven Shaw says someone fired a gun from inside 313 East 3rd Street. Shaw said the one bullet hit three people who were standing across the street outside of 312 East 3rd Street getting ready to go shopping.

Evans says he believes the 15-year-old girl that he performed CPR on died from her injuries.

For now, the Chadbourn Police Department is being tight-lipped on details.

Evans says he cannot believe his peaceful neighborhood was turned upside by something like this just two days before Christmas.

Police have not yet released the names of the victims or their conditions.

We also asked District Attorney Jon David if any charges have been filed against the shooter. He said he could not comment on the investigation, but that his office and the SBI are investigating.
