Biggest lesson I got from this is for the town of Leland to never, EVER allow a member of the police force to release their stun gun to an Acting Fire Chief OR an Assistant Fire Chief. Hell, let us broaden that lesson a little. Never, ever allow a police officer (on or off duty) to release their stun gun to a civilian.
That IS the lesson, right? It couldn't be anything like trying to associate the incident in East Spencer with with the issues in Leland could it? That would be mighty thin...reaching even. Some might even say it's a pathetic attempt to keep a story alive when there is nothing real to report. Here's a suggestion, look into the former Assistant Town Manager and her past history. Pretty sure there is a story there unless this station is protecting somthing.
I do agree though...the town of Leland, Brunswick County, Wilmington, New Hanover County...any municipality should look at East Spencer and Rowan County as an example of what to do should an officer lend his stun gun to a civilian.
Yeah...
