LELAND, NC (WWAY) -- Leland Police say they arrested a man this morning who allegedly tried to attack two other people with a knife.
According to a news release from Chief Tim Jayne, officers responded to a domestic violence call at 9606 Blake Circle around 11:15 a.m. Dispatchers told the officers someone had a knife and was threatening to stab people at the home.
Lt. William Kozak and Lt. Rick DellaPia found Markus Gore in the front yard swinging a knife at Betty Nixon and Jerome McMillan. The officers also say Nixon tried to pepper spray Gore while McMillan tried to defend Nixon with a pickaxe.
The officers ordered Gore to drop the knife and get on the ground. Gore complied briefly before getting to one knee and grabbing the knife as Nixon approached him.
The officers again challenged Gore, who complied as Lt. Kozak restrained the suspect.
Gore was transported to the Brunswick County Detention Center for processing. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats.
