Bobcats come to terms with backup PG McInnis on 1-year deal

Story body

CHARLOTTE (AP) -- Point guard Jeff McInnis is staying in the Tar Heel state. The Charlotte Bobcats re-signed McInnis to a one-year, $1.2 million contract yesterday.

McInnis had been an unrestricted free agent. He averaged 4.3 points and 3.3 assists in 38 games last season as the Number three point guard behind starter Raymond Felton and Brevin Knight.

McInnis will take on a bigger role as Felton's main backup next season after the Bobcats bought out the final year of Knight's contract.

Bobcats vice president of basketball operations Bernie Bickerstaff says McInnis and new coach Sam Vincent hit it off during offseason workouts.

McInnis, who grew up in Charlotte and played in college at North Carolina, wanted to play for the hometown team.
