TABOR CITY, NC (WWAY) -- A couple with ties to R.C. Soles are back in trouble after separate alleged crimes.
Frankie Jernigan is accused of trespassing again on the former senator's property. His wife is in trouble after police say she was caught on tape using pepper spray during a fight at a convenience store.
It was just after 6 p.m. Saturday when an argument broke out between a woman inside this car and others at the store. The argument escalated as two men get involved. Several minutes later the men start throwing punches. One man is even dropped to the ground. That's when investigators say Danielle Jernigan pulled out pepper spray and started blasting. The fight quickly broke up and people fled the store.
Jernigan's name may sound familiar. She is the wife of Frankie Jernigan, a Tabor City man who has been in the headlines before, after trespassing at the home and office of Soles.
Saturday's fight has resulted in two simple assault charges for Danielle Jernigan. Tabor city police say she has not yet been arrested.
Criminal summonses have also been issued for the men, James Brady of Tabor City and Jason Fowler of Chadbourn. They each face a simple affray charge.
The store owner, who does not want to be identified, says the pepper spray used in the fight led to his store closing early for the night. He says no one else besides the two groups involved were affected by the spray.
Meanwhile, Frankie Jernigan has more legal troubles of his own. Tabor city police say they spotted him outside Soles's law office Friday night and told him to leave. The officers circled the block and found Jernigan running after Soles's car. When Soles denied Jernigan's story that the former senator had instructed him to go to the back of the office, police arrested Jernigan for trespassing.
Soles and Frankie Jernigan are both due back in court Friday. Soles is charged with hitting Jernigan with a metal cane back in September. Jernigan has said he wants to drop the charge.
