VIDEO BLOG: Severe Weather potential for Wed. Cold air coming back!

Hard to believe it, but again in the dead of winter we'll be looking at a severe weather threat. It's kind of like a couple weeks ago - if you think back to December 27th, when we had a few storms get strong to severe with a tornado warning. That same type of weather system is headed our way yet again. A big cold front with a strong area of low pressure, with lots of warm air out ahead of it.  There are some differences this time around though.

Here are some of the pros and cons as far as severe weather potential in the Carolinas for Wednesday:

  • Strong area of low pressure driving a cold front through the area
  • High winds above the surface that could allow for rotation within storms that form
  • Storm has a history of a few tornadic thunderstorms.

  • Limited warmth and moisture will keep "instability" relatively low. This basically means air will have a tough time rising through the atmosphere; something it needs to do to sustain powerful thunderstorms.

I talk about the severe weather threat and timing in more detail in my video blog this morning. You can find it here on my Facebook page... or just click on the image below.

Thanks for logging on. We'll be with you tomorrow in case of any warnings across the area.
