Suspect arrested after shooting at Wilmington convenience store

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A fight led to a shooting in front of a Wilmington convenience store this morning. It happened just before 11 a.m. at Sam's Superette on Dawson Street.

Police say during the fight, one man pulled a gun and shot the victim in the leg.

At the time, police were on patrol a block away and responded quickly. When they arrived, the store clerk pointed out the alleged shooter to police. The suspect ran, but was caught about 50 feet from the scene.

Police charged Aaron Jamal Ringer, 37, of Leland, with attempted armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. He's in jail under $200,000 bond.

Police say someone else took off with the gun. That person has not been caught.

The 39-year-old victim was taken to the hospital. No word yet on his condition or name.
