Being beaten to death by a nutjob with a hammer is no better than being beaten to death by a robber with a hammer.
The law allows the application of deadly force when you are in fear of death or grievous bodily injury FROM ANYONE. You are under no obligation to have a psychological evaluation done on the person who is attacking you. As long as there is a reasonable conclusion that you were at risk, you have the law on your side.
This guy went so far as to fire warning shots, nowhere required by law. The store owner did everything in his power to avoid shooting this guy, but it ended the way it is supposed to - the good guys won.
Why does that constantly trouble you so much?
