ONLY ON 3: Interest in 'Teen Mom' arrest overwhelms sheriff's new spokesman

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Last night's arrest of "Teen Mom 2" star Janelle Evans may not have been too surprising given her criminal record. But for Brunswick County Sheriff's spokesman Del Routh, who is still fairly new to the job, the huge influx of media attention was a little overwhelming.

Call after call. E-mail after e-mail. Routh has gotten his fill of teen mom Janelle. Since around 8 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff's spokesman says he's gotten information requests from all over the country.

Deputies arrested the 20-year-old reality star yesterday on charges of placing harassing phone calls and communicating threats. No stranger to trouble with the law, Evans has faced a charge of assault following a fight video that went viral, trespassing and breaking and entering and a previous charge of harassing phone calls.

Routh, who has only been on the job for about three months, says he was not prepared for all the attention.

"If I had been a little been more prepared for what's been ongoing, then I would be a little bit more prepared and would have understood what was happening, and I didn't know why there was so much interest in this special case. So that was the biggest thing: that I wasn't familiar with it, but I can guarantee you I am very familiar with it now," Routh said.

Routh says he had never seen the reality shows that Evans has been on.

He got requests from about 30 different organizations from New York, LA, Florida and, of course, North Carolina.
