I would just like to point out that Coach "Pop" Herring did NOT "cut" Michael Jordan. What he DID do is place him on the JV squad, which was perfectly understandable since as a sophomore, he was among the youngest athletes at Laney. It was common practice for sophomores to start out playing their respective sports on the JV squad and move on to the Varsity level as juniors and seniors. Why should he be critisized for making this decision with Michael, just because he turned out to be the caliber of player that he turned out to be? It's very sad to me that this "misconception" about Pop seems to be the main thing that he is remembered for, as far as him being one of Michael's former coaches.
Setting the "record" straight
