Thousands look on as eagles hatch at NC lake

READ MORE:

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- Thousands of people watched two eagles hatch in a nest near the top of a tree at Jordan Lake.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that a website had more than 10,000 hits by late Friday, with viewers from North Carolina to Australia.

The moments were captured by a camera mounted over the nest in late 2010 by a team of N.C. State University students, staff and faculty.

The nest was rigged with solar-powered devices wirelessly connected to a router. The live feed was a big success last year, when two chicks hatched in January and remained in the nest until they fledged in April.

A biologist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers started streaming the video feed just days before eggs hatched last week.
