Sheriff discusses letter left by NC shooter

STAR, NC (AP) -- The Montgomery County sheriff says a man who shot and killed three co-workers and injured a fourth thought Hispanic co-workers were discussing him when they talked in Spanish and laughed.

Sheriff Dempsey Owens says 50-year-old Ronald Dean Davis left a six-page letter saying he thought co-workers were punishing or picking at him.

Davis shot four co-workers Friday at McBride Lumber Co. in Star, killing three. Davis was found at his own home a short time later with a gunshot wound and died Saturday.

The sheriff identified the fourth victim as 34-year-old Eusebio Diaz Gomez of Asheboro. Also killed were Davis's cousin, 32-year-old Daniel Thomas Davis and 25-year-old Jose Galdino Lopez Izquierdo of Asheboro. Twenty-one-year-old Florentino Tellez Aparicio of Candor is in fair condition at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
