Kids of all ages solve 'Mystery at the Museum'

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A Cape Fear Museum gardener found a pile of interesting things buried in the ground when he tried to plant a tree Saturday. Fortunately, hundreds of families helped him solve the ‘Mystery at the Museum.’

For the fourth year in a row, ‘Mystery at the Museum’ kept kids of all ages questioning and learning about science, technology, engineering and math. They used their senses and observation skills to find out who placed those items in the garden. Families interviewed potential suspects and completed science experiments for a hands-on learning experience.

"Families can learn together and do some investigation work to found out what it is and how it got there,” museum spokeswoman Amy Kilgore said.

"Today I learned what to use to find out substances,” ten-year-old detective Veronica Humphrey said. “I figured out how we can use pencils and tape to do fingerprints."

Humphrey thought the culprit was either the confederate spy or the colonial merchant.

'Mystery at the Museum' is going on until 4 p.m. Saturday.

The answer will be revealed at 5 p.m. Saturday at You can also tune in to WWAY NewsChannel 3 Sunday night at 11 to find out!
