RALEIGH, NC (NEWS RELEASE)-- According to a new poll conducted on behalf of Progress North Carolina, a New Hanover senate seat could be very competitive this fall. The poll is part of a series of surveys designed to answer the question: “Can progressives retake the NC General Assembly?” "The most recent round of legislative redistricting has left many progressives frustrated, but they should not be," said Gerrick Brenner, Executive Director of Progress North Carolina. "There are competitive districts all over the state if the right people step up and run for office." In Senate District 9, incumbent Republican Sen. Thom Gooldsby is tied with potential Democratic challenger and Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, 44%-44%. The survey was conducted by Public Policy Polling.
