So, retired firefighter...sounds like you believe nobody should be held accountable, and omerta should rule. Is your thin red/blue line a license to break the law and cover up?
The overwhelming majority of citizens in this society support law enforcement officers, firefighters, and public servants in general. It's when these folks start developing a herd mentality and come to believe their actions should not be questioned, everything they do is right and the public they serve should just keep quiet that things start to go awry.
Everyone has a boss including Chiefs of Police. Transparency breeds compliance.
