WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Seahawks from around the country soared back to the UNCW nest this weekend to celebrate homecoming. Alumni painted the town teal and revisited all of their old stomping grounds. Former students visited the classrooms and buildings where they gained the knowledge to succeed in the world. A day of receptions and events ended with a bang as the homecoming parade strolled through campus, and the men's basketball team hooped it up on the hardwood. Grads we spoke with say there's a lot to love about being a Seahawk. "Flip flops year round, for one,” laughed graduate Kristen Beckmeyer. “It was just a great experience, the small class sizes, and you really got to know your professors. Everyone was so supportive. It's a great campus, lots of stuff to do. I was also on the track team, so that was fun." Beckmeyer graduated from UNCW in 2001 with a degree in business management and now owns and operates Coastal Cupcakes here in Wilmington.
