The fact that they grabbed him while he had control of the weapon, then tazed him and he still had control of the weapon clearly indicates (to me) that a round through the head would have been a preferrable, safer course of action as long as the victim was clear. You don't play games while the suspect still holds the weapon, and people can often react immediately when the tazing is paused.
If he was close enough to grab, this was an ideal situation to use the standard Israeli takedown for suspected terrorists. One hits high and pins the arms, one hits low and takes the suspect down, and a third officer delivers two rounds to the back of the head. No danger at all to innocent parties: You're shooting down, through the head and into the ground.
BTW, I have no problem with penning in, "The decent people" behind "To protect and to serve..."
Now we have to feed, clothe, and house this worthless bag of fecal matter for years.
