I have resided in two cities the approximate size of Wilmington. Both added major league affiliate teams iun the 1990s and it was, and remains, wonderful in many ways for the community and region.
Yes, the usual suspects fought it tooth and nail, but, in the end progress won and both cities have never regretted the decision.
For those who want to keep economic development out of Wilmington, just look around at the mess most of the city is in. If it wasn't for the beaches, UNCW and Cape Fear CC, Wilmington -- public investment projects all -- the large areas of the city proper that are little more than urban cesspools and vacant buildings and swamp would be even more pronounced. We need to broaden our scope to keep Wilmington, NC in the game, folks.
It makes one want to through these Luddites into the outflow pipes of a future Titan Cement.
Seen This Before....and It Works.
