NC Pre-K started during the Hunt admin. as More At Four. Its purpose is for both at risk children and advanced children to start kindergarten at about the same skill level of understanding and about the same level of social skill. Prior to More At Four advanced children were held back because teachers had to spend class time trying to establish the at risk children. It is proven that the first years of a childs education sets to tone for the rest of their life. NC Pre-K is far from baby sitting. NC Pre-K is a highly structured developmnet program designed to expose at risk children to education and social skills many never receive at home. Most of these children don't have much of a home life, many have little opportunity to interact with other children. Many have no church to attend.
