90-year-old former university doctor running for governor

READ MORE:

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- A 90-year-old Harnett County man says he's running North Carolina governor on a platform of creating a state foundation that would allow North Carolina government to reduce or possibly eliminate taxes over time.

Physician Bruce Blackmon filed Tuesday at the State Board of Elections to become a candidate in the Democratic primary. Another Harnett County resident - former US Rep. Bob Etheridge - plans to file his candidate papers Wednesday morning, a few hours before the deadline.

Blackmon is the former director of health services for what is now Campbell University in Buies Creek. His platform is based on setting aside money over time to build up the state foundation.

Blackmon and Etheridge will bring to at least a dozen the number of gubernatorial candidates this year.
