My problem with Titan is it creates a lot of environmental impact for little positive economic impact. 160 jobs in a county of over 200,000 is nothing We already have problems with the EPA over air quality and are up close to the limit. Bringing in Titan gives us less head room to bring in other manufactures who would likely employ more people.
IMO Water is a bigger issue than air. This isn't just a "Plant" it is a 1600 acre strip mine. Titan wants to dig down deeper putting them even closer to the aquifer that supplies drinking water to New Hanover county and SE Pender County. Since Ideal Cement closed in 1982 the population of this area has doubled. This is creating more pressure on the aquifer. Additionally Titan is going to be pulling several million gallons a day for their operation. Personally I'll take the health and interests of 200,000 Americans over that of profits for a Greek corporation any day.
No longer compatible with this region's long term economics
