New Hanover Co. Courthouse closed Thursday because of bed bugs

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The New Hanover County Courthouse will be closed Thursday because of bed bugs.

Chief District Court Judge Jay Corpening says the exterminator is due in the morning, but it will take most of the day to deal with the bugs.

He says emergency protective orders and civil filings will be handled at the Juvenile Clerk's Office at 133 North 4th Street during normal business hours. Warrants can be taken out at the magistrate's office at the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office.

District Attorney Ben David says his office will reschedule Thursday cases. He hopes court can resume Friday, as there are more than 700 traffic court cases alone on the docket for that day.

No word, though, on when the courthouse can reopen.
