RALEIGH,NC (AP) -- Thomas Johnson scored 24 points and Kadeem Allen 21 as New Hanover County defeated West Charlotte 67-56 Saturday night to claim the Class 4-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association men's championship.

Allen was named the game's MVP as New Hanover (30-1) won its 14th state title and sixth at the 4-A level. Nigel Holley added 14 points for the Wildcats. Mark Blackmon led West Charlotte (27-6) with 20 points while Kennedy Meeks chipped in 14 points with 21 rebounds.

West Charlotte had been victorious in its last five trips to the state championship game, including a 78-69 win over Raleigh Millbrook in 2011. The Lions' only previous defeat in an NCHSAA state title game was in 1968, a 61-58 loss to New Hanover.

New Hanover shot 42.9 percent to West Charlotte's 31.9. West Charlotte won the rebounding battle 43-37, but committed 14 turnovers to the winners' 12.
