Edwards proposing anti-terrorism agency

NEW YORK (AP) -- Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says countries should share intelligence as a part of an international organization fighting terrorism.

The former North Carolina senator says such cooperation would combat dangers facing the country where President Bush has failed.

A speech Edwards is to deliver this afternoon at Pace University in New York says the country needs a counter-terrorism policy "that will actually counter terrorism."

The speech comes four days before the sixth anniversary of the September 11th attacks, not far from Ground Zero. It also comes in chief primary rival Hillary Clinton's home district.

Edwards says terrorism is worse in Iraq and is worse around the world.

He's proposing an organization he calls the Counter-terrorism and Intelligence Treaty Organization.
