WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- One of the hottest shows on TV has danced its way back onto the airwaves. ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and other shows like it not only provide entertainment but also motivation for folks to get up and move. For some, dancing may seem a bit daunting, but the rise of shows all about it has helped people realize that even the stars sometimes need a little help shining.
"The shows are what prompted us to realize that we didn't have the best moves maybe. As good of moves as we thought we did,” said Leslie and Danny Ott who have been taking dance lessons for nine months now. “Yeah, that was probably the motivation for actually getting out and dancing."
The Otts know how to rumba, waltz and swing just like the stars. They said they were tired of watching and wishing they had skilled moves, and Babs McDance was more than happy to help them out. She says the buzz these dance shows have created has helped her business boom.
"They go through the details of explaining what hard work it is for them when they are practicing and learning,” McDance said. “You know, the dedication and commitment."
Babs says it helps folks feel less awkward when they see others going through the same difficult steps and also inspires them to be better.
The Otts say their dance lessons not only keep their moves fresh but their date nights, too.
"Every Monday we come here, and it's just a nice evening out for us,” Leslie said. “Yeah, something we look forward to each week. It gets you out, and it's just something different."
Leslie and Danny say the shows are even better to watch now.
"When you're watching the moves and what they're doing, you kind of understand a little bit more, so it's definitely more enjoyable,” Danny said. “Yeah, and the techniques. You can actually pick out when they are messing up a step. It's kind of fun."
Don't forget, you can catch ‘Dancing with the Stars’ every Monday night on ABC and WWAY NewsChannel 3.
