City, state leaders talk issues over breakfast

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Jobs, jobs, jobs. That was the focus of the annual legislative breakfast with members of Wilmington City Council and our state legislature.

Job creation spurred by state film incentives was a big talking point. Mayor Bill Saffo said there are currently 800 people in New Hanover County working in the film industry, with eight productions in the works.

Though both groups are in constant communication, the breakfast is another chance to discuss how to better serve the community.

"Jobs is the main theme, and I'm sure that we're not unique in that," Councilman Charlie Rivenbark said. "We're like that, and everybody's like that. That's the main thing on everybody's mind is getting people back to work."

Department of Transportation projects were also discussed, including the Hampstead Bypass and the I-40 bridge project.
