I disagree with your way of thinking. It is because corporal punishment was taken away from schools that we are having the issues we're having now. We have instilled in our children the notion that they should reject anyone with any kind of authority. This began in the 1960's when government decided God was archaic and we no longer needed prayer in our schools, but didn't stop there. The next step was teachers and principles were stripped of any kind of punishment that had any kind of positive effect. Now, parents are not allowed to spank their children without threat of being jailed. I don't know why you are surprised we have the problems we have now.
Adults have to have authority to maintain an environment where children can learn. I grew up with children being spanked and most grew up to be respectful to those around them and respected themselves. I know this isn't the politically correct thing to say, but it is true. You can spank a child without being brutal.
