NC gay marriage ban debate today

READ MORE:

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- A small college in Raleigh is the site of a panel discussion on possible results if North Carolina voters approve or reject changing the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

The event at Meredith College on Monday brings together some of the proposed amendment's most ardent supporters and opponents in what is billed as a respectful discussion. The panelists include law professors and church pastors on both sides. It's being moderated by a Meredith College professor of religion and ethics.

North Carolina law already rules out gay marriage, but voters will decide in the May 8 election whether that ban will be locked into the state constitution. That would mean marriage laws could not be changed quickly by legislators.
