BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) -- A Brunswick County detention officer found himself on the wrong side of the jailhouse bars today.

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Vice/Narcotics Unit charged Bryan Patrick Marshburn with felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sheriff John Ingram immediately fired Marshburn from his job at the jail.

Ingram's letter to Marshburn read: "Effectively (sic) immediately your service with Brunswick County Sheriff's Office is no longer needed. Turn in all departmental identification and equipment immediately."

Marshburn, 55, of Southport, was a part-time detention officer. He'd worked for the sheriff's office since June 20, 2011.
