The current population of New Hanover County is approximately 203,000 people. The current unemployment rate is approximately 10% or 20,334 people.
Allowing Titan to build this plant equals:
12,399,932 lbs. of new pollution per year or 77,499 lbs. of new pollution per year per job (160 jobs).
If Titan fills all 160 jobs with unemployed people from New Hanover County, this still leaves approximately 20,174 people unemployed. This is LESS THAN 1%.
If the unemployed from Pender and Brunswick Counties are considered, this number becomes even more absurd, if possible.
Huge strain on the Castle Hayne Aquifer, real possibility of many wells going dry.
There have been water shortages the last two summers without Titan.
Real possibility of aquifer becoming contaminated/polluted.
Foreign Corporation equals profits leaving this country.
New pollution added to the Northeast Cape Fear River and Island Creek.
Their plant in Florida is operating at approximately 35% of capacity.
Cement workers are being layed off world wide.
Dividends not being paid.
Titan tries to sue people into silence, instead of joining in during public debates.
Titan has proven beyond any doubt it does not care about the environment and the people living around their plants by the manner in which their plant in Alexandria, Egypt operates. This proves every single day that what Titan says and what Titan does are two entirely different things. Actions trump words.
Maybe reducing less than 1% of the unemployment rate. Massive amounts of new pollution in the air and water. Massive amount of new strain on an already overburdened aquifer. And this for an industry whose profits are down worldwide. It appears this will be built, people hired, and then layed off. Why?
The links below show what the people in Alexandria, Egypt have to put up with. Please cut and paste if they will not open.
