WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- This time next week, we'll be in the middle of the 65th Annual North Carolina Azalea Festival. And of course, a big part of that is the Cape Fear Garden Club's Azalea Garden Tour.
The tour starts a week from today, and organizers are already excited about the revenue these flowers will rake in. In addition to being a nice way to spend an afternoon, the garden tour is a great way to raise money for the community.
Through the years the gardens have helped raise more than a million bucks.
"Last year we gave back $83,000 back into the community for beautification of schools, churches whomever might apply for the grants, and so it's exciting," Azalea Garden Tour Chair Karen Smith said.
In addition to grants for beautification projects around town, money from the garden tour also provides scholarships for students at UNCW and Cape Fear Community College.
