Speculation abounds as Wilmington gets ready for 'Iron Man 3'

READ MORE: Speculation abounds as Wilmington gets ready for 'Iron Man 3'

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- There's a lot of buzz in the entertainment world about "Iron Man." Robert Downey Jr. stars as the super hero in "The Avengers," which opens next month. Meanwhile, the Port City is getting ready for "Iron Man 3," one of the biggest motion pictures in North Carolina history, to start shooting this spring.

Many entertainment publications say the film is code named "Caged Heat," but the Wilmington Regional Film Commission could not confirm any connection. All they could say is that "Caged Heat" is in production in Wilmington, but no information on "Iron Man 3" can be released at this time.

Other sources have new information on the production.

"Variety" reports that Oscar-winner Ben Kingsley is in final talks to be the villain in "Iron Man 3," but Marvel has not confirmed that. The trade publication says Downey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Scarlett Johansson have all signed on to reprise their roles.

Open casting calls for extras for "Caged Heat" have circulated on websites like with the first this weekend in Raleigh and another next weekend right here in Wilmington.

We tried to confirm this information, but the "Iron Man 3" office at Screen Gems says a publicist has not started yet, but as soon as they do, the casting information will officially be released.

For now though, it seems everyone is staying tight-lipped and top secret about all things Stark Industries.

We called Fincannon and Associates to find out if they knew anything about the casting calls. They said they were not casting the film. Instead another casting agency is handling extras.

The talent search in Raleigh this weekend on Saturday will be held at Crabtree Valley Mall from 10 am to 1 pm. No details have been released yet on the Wilmington casting call.
